MountfieldRole of the Council

Bridport Town Council is the parish authority for the town of Bridport. It is the fourth tier of government after parliament, the county council and the district council. Its legal powers are granted to it and regulated by various government acts.

The town council supplements the provision of local government services in Bridport and provides a range of social and recreational facilities, while promoting and representing the town with other statutory bodies.

The Parish is divided into two Wards, North and South. Each ward is represented by 9 Councillors.
(Population approximately 7,300. )

The Town Council operates from the Council Offices at Mountfield, where regular committee and sub committee meetings take place. The Town Clerk, (the Proper Officer) and  council staff carry out the work as directed by the meetings of the Town Council.
