Bridport Energy Champions

Bridport Energy Efficiency Campaign 2021/23
‘Lowering Household Bills – Lowering Carbon Emissions’

The news that average household’s energy bill was due to significantly rise was chilling for millions of people already struggling to heat their homes.

The increases in energy bills were eye-watering, on average £1000 more than 2021, and focussed people’s minds on ways to save energy.
Bridport Town Council working with Sustainable Bridport, the Centre for Sustainable Energy and Bridport Community Shed are keen to support households to address the energy price crisis and in doing so help move our community toward a fair transition to a net zero carbon future.

25% of homes in the Bridport area fall in the lowest two energy rating levels. If your house or flat is uninsulated and draughty, and if your appliances are inefficient, then you’re wasting energy and money – and making yourself less snug and warm.

Sources of Help:

Bridport’s Energy Champions have copies of an excellent booklet full of energy saving ideas which are relevant to home owners and renters alike. It can be collected from the Town Council reception at Mountfield. It is also available online Energy Saving Booklet.

The Energy Champions are trained in the use of thermal imaging cameras and can come to your house to assess cold spots, discuss issues and energy saving ideas.

Thermal imaging surveys can only be done when the heating is on because we need to be able to see where the cold is getting in or heat escaping.

Bookings are now being taken for October 2023 onwards. Contact [email protected] or call 01308 456722

Homeowner wanting to make changes?

Retrofit refers to any improvement work on an existing building to improve its energy efficiency, making it easier to heat, able to retain that heat for longer, and replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy. There are many options out there, including solar systems, heat pumps and biomass boilers and the right choice will depend on your home and circumstances. You can find a lot more information about how to generate your own renewable energy on the Energy Saving Trust’s website.
