Remembrance Sunday 2023

MEDIA RELEASE

Remembrance Sunday 2023

Bridport’s annual Remembrance Parade and Service on Sunday 12 November will as usual mark the sacrifice of those who lost their lives in war. The event, organised by Bridport Town Council, Parade Commander Brigadier John Dean, Bridport Team Ministry and a range of forces, community groups, and volunteers, will commence with a parade through the town centre by representatives and veterans of HM Armed Forces, and local groups and organisations.

Accompanied by the Wessex Military Band, the parade will move off from East Street at approximately 10.40am following inspection by the Town Mayor, Cllr Dave Bolwell. The Mayor will lead the Parade and will then lay a wreath as part of the ceremony and observance of the traditional two minute silence at the War Memorial. This will be followed by the Mayor’s address and the Service of Remembrance in St Mary’s Church.

Repeating a change to the arrangements first made in 2021, the parade will not return up South Street after the service. This is in recognition of the fact that some participants find this second parade increasingly challenging.

Town Centre road closures will be in place for the parade from 10.30am until approximately 12.00pm. Local residents and visitors to the town centre are asked not to park in the vicinity of St Mary’s Church after 8.00am on the morning of Sunday 12 November. Road closures will be lifted as soon as it is safe to do so.
