Decision regarding purchase of retail units at 35 South Street, Bridport

Decision regarding purchase of retail units at 35 South Street, Bridport

Bridport Town Council will be considering making a decision to purchase two retail units at 35 South Street, Bridport at a Town Council meeting on Monday 9th November.

The Electric Palace, was listed for sale earlier this year.  The whole building comprises of the Electric Palace venue, two residential apartments and the retail units which are occupied by local businesses. The Town Council will make a decision about the purchase of the retail units, with the residential apartments above being sold by the vendor separately.

It is anticipated that the purchase, if agreed, will provide security and continuity to the existing local businesses as well as preserve the façade of this significant local building. Bridport Town Council would also take on the responsibility for the front section of the building, including the accessway to the Electric Palace venue.

The proposed acquisition is limited to the two retail units and the front section of the building; the main venue itself is not part of the purchase. The proposed acquisition of the retail units would demonstrate the Council remains committed to supporting discussions with the local community and exploring whether a community-led vehicle can be established to secure the future of this valuable town asset.
